The BBQ

Although we have diverse menu of many Southern favorites we are most famous for our traditional Southern BBQ. All our BBQ is smoked in-house, using COOKSHACK brand Smokers. Even the hickory wood we use to smoke is shipped up straight from the South. Everything is smoked slowly and carefully - up to 10 hours! - in order to get the best tasting, juiciest BBQ in town.

The Bar

Back when Brother jimmy’s first opened, we didn't even have a bar! Nowadays, it's hard to imagine a Brother Jimmy's without a happy crowd hanging out, watching sports and sipping on one of our thematically inspired drinks such as Plantation Punch, Carolina Cooler, Southern Belle or the infamous “Swamp Water”. In fact, Zagat's recently ranked us as the number 7 most popular Nightspots in the entire city of New York!

Catering

Brother Jimmy’s Catering, a full service-catering outfit, was launched in 2001. Offering the complete Brother Jimmy’s menu, with the ability to create dishes to personal tastes, Brother Jimmy’s regularly caters events for high profile organizations such as the New York Jets, MTV, Price Waterhouse, Sotheby’s, First American Title Insurance and a host of others. We have even began to provide our barbecue services at giant public events such as The Hudson River Park BBQ & Blues Festival, with over 3000 people, the July fourth Fireworks show on Roosevelt Island, as well as CD 101.9 JAZZFEST where we served BBQ to over 8000 people over the weekend.

Growth and Expansion

• Brother Jimmy's first opened its doors in NYC at 1572 First Avenue back in 1988. Inspired by such legendary Carolina slow-smokin' BBQ joints as Melton's in Rocky Mount, N.C., Wilbur's BBQ in Goldsboro N.C., and Maurice Bessinger's Piggy Park in Columbia, S.C., Brother Jimmy's mission was to bring down home cookin' and good times from the South to NYC, and to educate the Northeast about REAL BBQ.

• We outgrew our original location in 1990 and moved down the block to First Avenue and 76th Street, which was more than double the size of the original joint and would become the standard for all future Brother Jimmy's.

Over the years, Brother Jimmy's established itself as the home away from home for A.C.C. Alumni. Homesick alums from Duke, UNC, N.C. State, Georgia Tech, U.V.A., Clemson, Maryland, and Wake Forest began to flock to Brother Jimmy's to catch the big Duke/UNC game, or to watch the Demon Deacons take on the Terps. Brother Jimmy’s found a home in the hearts of New Yorkers. We were the restaurant in NYC that reminded Southerners what good ol' Southern hospitality was all about, and showed Northerners just what they'd been missing all these years. We became synonymous with the South, and more specifically North Carolina. In fact, by 1992 the majority of our staff was either from the South or had lived there. It was not unusual to call for a delivery and hear a southern twang.

• In 1996 we opened our second NYC location at 1644 Third Avenue (at 92nd Street). Brother Jimmy's Bait Shack, continued the Carolina traditions of BBQ, blues, and basketball, with its 15 ft x 15 ft TV screen established itself as THE sports bar for hoops, college football, stock car racing, and so on.

• In 1998 the third NYC Brother Jimmy's opened at Amsterdam Avenue and 80th street, bringing all the traditional fixin's of Brother Jimmy's BBQ to the stuffy Upper West Side.

• In September of 2000, our original store, 76th & First, moved once again. To a new home around the corner on Second Ave between 77th & 78th. The new location is bigger and even busier than the previous one, but it still continues to carry on the proud traditions of Brother Jimmy's BBQ…

• Most recently, Brother Jimmy’s opened its first “quick service” unit in the dining concourse of Grand Central Station where we bring our world class BBQ to the “crossroads of the world”.

Brother Jimmy’s has a large line of merchandise. From shirts, hoodies & hats, to glassware and coozies. You can even shop at our on-line store. We have even introduced a line of condiments. Those include 4 BBQ sauces (Regular, Chipotle, Mustard and Blazin’ Hot), and soon we will introduce a Hot Sauce and Dry Rub Seasoning.

Over fifteen years, Brother Jimmy's has established itself as a New York legend. Our restaurants and catering company continue to thrive, and our family of happy customers continues to grow. Wherever people are hungry for good BBQ, wherever they suffer under the oppression of bad food and boredom, Brother Jimmy's will be there, "puttin' some South in their mouth!"
